This programming unit offers a wide range of specially designed citation and certificate continuing professional education programs for knowledge workers, including health care professionals, professional engineers, foresters, human resource managers, occupational health and safety professionals, educators, technical specialists, sales staff and administrators. 94.2.1 Aboriginal Health Promotion Citation
The Aboriginal Health Promotion Citation program is open to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students pursuing a career in which they are likely to work within Aboriginal communities, assuming a leadership role in health, education, social services, and governance or in which they may work at building partnerships for health education and research. Because health has traditionally been conceptualized in a holistic way, the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional leaders within Aboriginal communities all have a role in promoting the health of Aboriginal people, in turn decreasing health inequities between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. The knowledge and skills of traditional and western knowledge will be integrated in the hopes of increased relevant, appropriate and effective health promotion strategies at the grass roots, community level.
94.2.2 Applied Geostatistics
The Citation Program in Applied Geostatistics (CPAG) program is designed to assist mining and petroleum engineers and geoscientists better pinpoint the resource bodies for which they search. This program fills an important niche between the conventional one-week short course and the two-year Masters degree program in the Faculty of Engineering. It is ideally suited to those from industry who seek a more in depth understanding of modern geostatistical tools. The Construction Administration Certificate program is designed to assist entry-level practitioners develop the competencies needed to be effective administrators of construction projects in a wide range of sectors. This certificate builds understanding of the planning, technical, financial, and legal aspects of the construction business. The certificate is accredited by the Canadian Construction Association for Gold Seal Accreditation. Liability concerns, regulatory requirements and enforcement, and public interest greatly influence development and business decisions. Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues is becoming increasingly important and challenging in all areas of life in the 21st century. The Environmental Resource Management Certificate program prepares professionals at every career level to meet the challenges of the rapidly growing and changing environmental profession. Concern for health and safety in the workplace is increasing among workers and employers across all industries and society in general. This certificate program is designed to help practitioners from many different backgrounds develop the competencies needed to be effective in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health and safety programs and systems in a wide variety of occupational settings. The Occupational Health and Safety Certificate helps prepare candidates for registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) as granted by the Board of Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP), and assists Registered Occupational Hygienists maintain registration with the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists (CRBOH) and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
